Junior B, aka Pam Hubbuck, is Sydney’s long-standing champion of all things deep
house. As a successful DJ, tour promoter, and the owner of Acetate Record Bar,
she has the respect of peers and punters alike and factors as key mover in the
Australian dance scene.
Junior B started DJing around the late 80’s as a
very ‘junior’ B. With a passion for the more deep and soulful side of house
music her DJ sets demonstrate an intuitive sense of groove and funk. Sleazy
vocals, lush orchestrations, Latin percussion, hard-hitting minimalist funk and
jackin’ rump wrigglers all find their way into a Junior B DJ set. Curiously, her
music seems to know no age boundaries. There is an innate ability to create
havoc on the dancefloor with all walks of life, from teenagers to geriatrics.
Junior B has played alongside an impressive array of international DJs
including Miguel Migs, Mateo & Matos, Kings Of Tomorrow, Danny Tenaglia, David
Morales, Armand Van Helden, DJ Sneak, Slam and Frankie Knuckles (to name a few).
She plays regular slots at Queer Nation (Home), the Colombian, Chinese
Laundry/Slip Inn, ‘One Love’ at the Prince (Melbourne) and other interstate
parties. Her ‘Better House & Beer Garden’ popular Sunday night at the Lord
Roberts is an end-of-weekend staple.
Junior B’s weekly radio program
‘Stereophonic Soul Food’ on 2SER 107.3 FM is broadcast all over Sydney
(Thursdays 12-2pm), and around the world via the internet on
www.2ser.com. A
weekly house mix program showcasing the latest and greatest music from across
the globe, it's considered to be one of the highlights of 2SER’s underground
music schedule.
Most days you can find Pam hard at work at her record store
Acetate Record Bar. As Sydney’s premier importer of underground American &
quality house music, Acetate has many regulars who have become friends, and has
a strong mail-order base from people overseas. The shop is also high on the list
of priorities for the who's who of national and international DJs visiting our
shores, including Derrick Carter, Honey Dijon, Spencer Kincy, Green Velvet,
Luvdup, David Morales, George Morel, Danny Tenaglia, Mark Farina and Mateo &
Matos.
