Craig 'Abu' Morrison - Afro-Cuban & African Percussion
Sydney, NSW, Australia
Craig Morrison has fifteen years experience as an international percussionist,
having performed in Glasgow, London, Indonesia, West Africa, Hawaii, New Zealand
and Australia. A skilled professional, Craig specialises in both Cuban and
African percussion (Congas, Bongos, Djembe and Talking Drum). Endorsed by both
Billy Hydes Drumcraft and Latin Percussion (Lp) he is recognised by industry as
one of Australia's premier percussionists.

With authentic Afro-Cuban
technique, Craig possesses an ability to enthral audiences, adding energy to
events and impact to dance floors. Having performed with bands and D.J.'s, as a
soloist, in sessions and workshops and as a teacher, his experiences have led to
having the ability to pick what is required in any given situation.

Craig is
currently performing with Grover (6 piece jazz funk), Azadoota (6 piece
"Santana meets the Middle East"), Jive Kayana (7 piece South African Township
Jive), Drum Café (8-10 piece nationwide corporate drumming workshops), Dr.
Feelgood (10 piece funk), Morialto (percussion with D.J.), Groove Alliance (3-5
piece improvisation), New Generation Music (children's percussion workshops /
festivals and schools), Solotel Entertainment (agency) and K.B.T. Entertainment
(agency). Other projects include session recordings, arranging corporate
entertainment, teaching (1-1 students) and percussion workshops for sponsors.

Throughout his career, Craig has continually improved his knowledge and
technique by studying under numerous internationally acclaimed drummers. These
have included David Oladunni (Nigeria), Malik Diop (Senegal), Mohamed Bangoura
(Guinea), Epizo Bangoura (Guinea), John Paul Wobotah (South Africa) and Kojo
Noah (Ghana). Travelling to Guinea, W. Africa in 2000, Craig studied intensively
for several months with Lopez Soumah, famed director of Les Percussions des
Guinee. This group is an internationally renowned national ensemble, composed of
the countries elite drummers. A deep insight in traditional and advanced
drumming techniques as well as complete absorption in the culture was
experienced during these travels.

Craig has performed in a number of
Sydney’s clubs and top venues including:

The Basement, Sydney Opera House,
The Metro, Stadium Australia, Sydney Casino, The Gaelic Club, The Domain, Cargo
Bar, Soho Bar, Q Bar, The Burdekin, Slipp Inn, Tantra, Manly Jazz Festiva, The
Aqua Lounge, Woollahra Hotel, Side On Cafe, The Blue Room, Stonewall, The
